Fortunately, the Dallas Cowboys have not ruled out the possibility of restoring Tyron Smith to their roster. However, a healthy Smith might have been in the running for the coveted left tackle slot, and it would be a shame to lose him for good.
While there is no way to guarantee that Smith will return in time for the playoffs, the Cowboys will likely have to move on to a new starting left tackle if they intend to make a run at the NFC East. The Cowboys will have to find a replacement for La’el Collins at right tackle and Connor Williams at left guard. In the meanwhile, Smith will be out of practice for the foreseeable future. This will give the Cowboys an opportunity to evaluate the former tackle and decide whether or not he should be relegated to the sidelines. Hopefully, Smith will be back in the fold by the start of the regular season, as his presence will be a boon to the offense.
On the flipside, the Cowboys Tyrone Smith positive perspectives are going to have to fill out their offensive line, which isn’t cheap. In the past, Dallas has relied on a combination of Jason Peters, Connor McGovern, and the up and coming, Darren Elbow. Despite the lack of a true starter at one of these positions, the Cowboys have remained a consistent force at the position. While a solid line will be crucial to a winning season, the team has a number of other talented players who can help out. In fact, the Cowboys may be in for a real treat in Week 15 against the Texans.
Although it’s been over a month since Smith last suited up, the latest developments suggest that he will be back in the fold by the time the postseason rolls around. If not, the Cowboys will have to look elsewhere for the job. The NFL is littered with highly skilled left tackles who are ready to make a name for themselves. A high-priced free agent like Patrick Ehlinger or a veteran such as Mike Pouncey might be a better bet.
The Cowboys are still in the thick of things, but there are other worthy contenders. Considering the Cowboys have only seven defensive starters, they’ll need all the help they can get. As for the other teams, the Eagles, Vikings, and Redskins are arguably the weaker of the bunch. They all have a chance to catch up to Dallas for the division crown, and the team will have to be ready for whatever happens in their next matchup.
